    The door

ChatGPT, Gemini in Gmail, Meta AI in WhatsApp, Google's AI answer: four AIs, or four doors? The four ways AI reaches you, and which one fits the job.

How many AIs did you use today? ChatGPT, the Gemini in your Gmail, Meta AI in WhatsApp, the AI answer on top of your Google search. It feels like four different AIs. It's really four doors.

The door is how the AI reaches you. There are only four kinds, and knowing them is step one to putting AI to work in your business.

    Door 1: a chat

Ask anything, any way you like, and keep going back and forth. ChatGPT is a chat. So is Meta AI in WhatsApp.

A chat is the most flexible door, and the one everyone knows. It's built for open questions, where you don't know exactly what you want until you see the first answer.

    Door 2: a field

One short instruction, one answer. In Gmail you type "Reply to this Japanese email for me" into the box under your reply, and a draft appears, in Japanese. On Google you type a search, and the AI answer sits right on top of the results.

No conversation. You say what you need in a line, inside the app you're already using.

    Door 3: a button

One tap, for a job you already know. "Summarise this email" in Gmail is a button: you don't write anything, the instruction is already built in.

Buttons are where a task that used to take five minutes becomes a single tap, because someone has decided in advance exactly what the AI should do.

    Door 4: the background

No chat. No button. You give it a mission once, and it runs on repeat. A daily news update you scheduled in ChatGPT is a background door: every morning it does the job without you asking again.

This is the door nobody notices, because once it's set up you don't see it working. You just see the results.

    Where most businesses stop

Most businesses stop at the chat. Someone on the team opens ChatGPT, asks a question, copies the answer. Useful, but it's one door out of four, and often not the best one for the job.

    Try it

List three things your team does with AI this week, or wishes it could. For each one, ask which door fits. Anything that happens every day, the same way, is a candidate for the background.

Pick the door first, then the tool. That's how AI actually gets into your business, and how a small team gets more done without adding headcount.

Quick question. How many AIs did you use today? ChatGPT. The Gemini in your Gmail. Meta AI in WhatsApp. That AI answer on top of your Google search. Four AIs? Nope. Four doors. And knowing the doors is step one to putting AI to work in your business. Let's go.

Door one: a chat. Ask anything, any way you like. ChatGPT. Meta AI in WhatsApp.

Door two: a field. One short instruction, one answer. “Reply to this Japanese email for me,” right inside Gmail. Or type into your Google search, and the AI answer sits right on top.

Door three: a button. One tap, for a job you already know. “Summarise this email” in Gmail.

Door four, and nobody notices this one: the background. No chat. No button. You give it a mission once, and it runs on repeat. Like a daily news update you scheduled in ChatGPT.

And here's what most businesses get wrong. They stop at the chat. So which door fits? Free-form asking? A chat. A short, one-off instruction? A field. A task you already know by heart? A button. And a job that repeats, with a clear mission, like checking every invoice or sorting every enquiry? Put it in the background.

Pick the door first. That's how AI actually gets into your business.

Next, I'm opening up the brain behind all these doors. Why it sounds so sure... and still gets it wrong. I'm OC. Follow so you don't miss it.

    The brain

AI can rebuild Photoshop now. So why is it still wrong for your business? Not because it's dumb: because of what it read, and whose rules it followed.
